Meet Carrie Morris, Holistic Career Development and Management Coach

There is only one success- to be able to spend your life in your own way.

I’m Carrie Morris, a personal and professional development coach with 20+ years of corporate, retainer-based talent acquisition and career services experience. Formerly, I represented the Department of Defense, Discovery Health, Walt Disney Company, and Marriott International, among Fortune 500’s leading hospitality and leisure brands assess the competitive landscape specific to each organization and resulting talent acquisition roadmap.

As a Narrative Coach, I believe in the power of story. Your story! Stories, experiences, and conclusions you’ve drawn and continue to play out in your life AND may benefit from a refresh and revision to bring you closer to what you genuinely care about and the impact and level of contribution you wish to make.

My practice supports executives, mid-careerists, and young professionals to better articulate skill-based narratives in interview conversations, and innovative job search strategies, with sustained focus and flexibility to remain in the game.

I have specialized training in a variety of coaching methodologies, including positive psychology, somatic coaching, and ADHD coaching. I am also a freelance writer with articles featured in DC Magazine, Washington Post, Bethesda Magazine, More Magazine, among other local and national publications.

My Journey to Becoming a Career Development Coach

What I love most about my role is helping clients of all ages and stages develop a personal and professional brand that orients them to this brave new world of work. They develop a positive outlook and heightened sense of curiosity, inspiring experimentation and more agility. We cultivate their wherewithal to tailor their conversations about their interests, values, and capabilities to meet the needs of a range of situations.

In my formative years, I can’t count the number of times I’d hear from older and wiser mentors, “It’s all in the journey, not the destination, Carrie.” Their advice was largely sound for someone eager to race toward a finish line without the foggiest notion of what it would look and feel like should I ever cross.

But journey I did, following a circuitous path full of setbacks and triumphant comebacks. I played Pluto in the park during my employment as a Talent Acquisition professional with Walt Disney Studios, did publicity for first-run game shows, had my own radio program, and interviewed and produced video life stories for individuals and their family members. And, lest I forget –married a man I met on Love Connection. The moral of that story, never marry a man you meet on a game show. In short, the mythology of the linear career path wasn’t in my DNA - I’m now proud to say. For I was a "Multipotentialite,” as I would learn decades later. It stems from the word multipotentiality and describes people like me and many of the clients I coach who display aptitudes, interests, and creative talents across multiple disciplines. Had my college advisors known that such a personality type existed back in the day, they likely wouldn’t have closed their office blinds when they saw me walking up to the path, knowing I’d be changing my major yet again.

And now, decades later, my greatest joy is helping clients find their personal and professional connective tissue in service of building dynamic, multifaceted lives in practical and sustainable ways. So whether you’re at the beginning of your career exploration or in the midst of a transition, it’s possible and worth your time to target a career that showcases your natural abilities, competencies, and environment that encourages innovation and self-expression.

Our Work is Deeply Personal, Regenerative, and Emergent

I bring a holistic approach to the career development and reintegration process by encouraging clients to recognize the difference between work tied solely to arbitrary performance outcomes and SELF-LED work. Our work is an extension and the truest expression of who you are. The ultimate connection with yourself, your organization, colleagues, direct reports, and the world around you. Together, we will cultivate your ability to tie personal learnings with self-generative outcomes.

The Value of Holistic Career Development.

If you're asking yourself…

  • If your perfectionism and "driven-ness" are distracting from your desire to make an impact in your work.

  • How are you going to navigate this competitive, disjointed job market that no one at your college or university prepared you to meet head on?

  • Is there a connection between your boredom and your feelings of burnout?

  • Why are you singing the lyrics to Peggy’s Lee’s “Is That All There is?” before you log into work.

  • When are you going to take the risk and explore your next act before it’s too late?

  • Why do you feel muted in work meetings, be they in person or virtual? I’m here to tell you - You’re in the wrong job!

  • About your relevance in this emergent, digital world of work, and how your skill sets translate.

  • If you’re up to a more proactive, creative approach to job search, focusing more on your WHY than your HOW.

  • If you’ve come to the decision that your personal and working identity are central to crafting the life you want and ROY (Return on You).

…YOU’VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!

The client coach relationship can be one of the most powerful you forge in your life!

I hope you entrust me to journey and learn alongside you.
